Trump: I won't meet Putin unless he's ready for a deal

US President Donald Trump has said he will waste no time meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin if the Kremlin leader is not ready to make a deal to end the war in Ukraine.

"You should know that we're going to make a deal. I'm not going to waste any time," Trump told reporters on October 25 while traveling to Malaysia, where he kicked off his Asian tour.

"I've always had a wonderful relationship with Vladimir Putin, but this has been incredibly disappointing. I thought this war would end before peace was achieved in the Middle East," he added.

Trump spoke with Putin last week and said he plans to meet him in Budapest in a few weeks.

However, the US president later canceled the meeting, saying the parties would meet later.

Meanwhile, the Reuters news agency quoted a US official as saying that the Trump administration has prepared additional sanctions against the Russian economy, which could be implemented if Putin rejects the peace deal.

The United States shocked energy markets around the world on October 22 when it announced it would sanction Russian energy companies Rosneft and Lukoil, which are believed to be financing Russia's war in Ukraine through oil exports.

A day later, the European Union also imposed sanctions on Rosneft and Gazpromneft, another major oil company, a subsidiary of the Russian state giant, Gazprom.

The war in Ukraine began on February 24, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia by hitting the country's economy with harsh sanctions.

As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes./ Rel
