A prosecutor in Prizren is arrested on suspicion of bribery.

A prosecutor at the Basic Prosecution Office of Prizren was arrested at his workplace on October 27, authorities announced.

The Kosovo Special Prosecution Office said that prosecutor B.Sh. is suspected of having committed the criminal offense of "taking a bribe."

"The Special Prosecution, together with the Kosovo Police, is undertaking all necessary investigative actions, in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code and applicable laws," the announcement said.

Betimi për Drejtësi, a media outlet specializing in reporting on the field of justice, said that the arrested prosecutor is Beqë Shala.

According to the Oath for Justice, he was arrested while this media outlet was conducting an investigation into this prosecutor, claiming to possess a video recording of Shala accepting a bribe.

According to the Criminal Code of Kosovo, an official who directly or indirectly solicits or accepts a bribe so that he does not act in accordance with his official duty may be punished with a fine or imprisonment from one to eight years.

The official may also be sentenced to 12 years in prison if the act committed is contrary to his official duty.

This code also provides for even higher prison sentences, namely up to 15 years in prison, if the criminal offense results in material benefit in a value exceeding 15 thousand euros./ Rel
