Uragani

Të paktën tre persona kanë humbur jetën në Xhamajka, ndërsa uragani “Melissa” ka prekur vendin, duke sjellë erëra të forta, përmbytje dhe dallgë të mëdha. Autoritetet kanë urdhëruar evakuime masive dhe kanë hapur qindra strehimore.

“Melissa” është forcuar në një uragan të Kategorisë 5, me erëra me shpejtësi mbi 175 milje në orë, duke e bërë atë një nga uraganet më të forta që kanë goditur Karaibet. Parashikuesit amerikanë paralajmërojnë për kushte atmosferike katastrofike dhe kërcënuese për jetën.

Tre viktimat u shënuan gjatë përgatitjeve për uraganin që po afrohej, një burrë u rrëmbye nga uji ndërsa përpiqej të pastronte kanalizimet, një i dytë u godit nga një pemë që binte dhe një i tretë humbi jetë nga plagët e marra pas një aksidenti ndërsa përpiqej të rregullonte çatinë e shtëpisë së tij.

Kryeministri Andrew Holness shpalli gjendje të jashtëzakonshme në Xhamajka, duke iu bërë thirrje banorëve të ndjekin me përpikëri urdhrat e evakuimit dhe të kërkojnë strehim në vende të sigurta.

Meteorologët paralajmërojnë se stuhia mund të zgjasë mbi ishull për disa orë, duke rritur rrezikun e dëmeve të mëdha në infrastrukturë dhe shtëpi. Aeroportet dhe portet janë mbyllur, ndërsa linjat ajrore kanë anuluar të gjitha fluturimet. /CNA
