Kremlin: False reports of a telephone conversation between Trump and Putin

The Kremlin has dismissed media reports that a telephone conversation took place between US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, saying the reports are "completely false".

The American daily, Washington Post, citing sources close to Trump, reported on November 10 that Trump spoke with Putin on the phone on November 7, and they discussed the war in Ukraine.

According to her, Trump had the conversation from Florida, the day after he spoke with the Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky.

Anonymous sources cited by the newspaper said Trump told Putin not to escalate the war in Ukraine, and expressed interest in further talks to "resolve the issue of the war in Ukraine quickly."

Reuters news agency also reported on this phone call.

"It is completely untrue. It's completely fabricated, it's false information," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the media on November 11.

"No conversation has taken place."

Initially, Putin was cold towards Trump's victory in the elections, while on November 7 he publicly congratulated him.

He praised Trump's "courage" when he survived the assassination attempt against him in July, and said he was "ready" to talk to him.

"This is the purest example of the quality of information that is being published nowadays, sometimes even by the media," said Peskov.

According to him, there are no "concrete plans" for such a call.

He also said that the Kremlin has noticed "a dose of nervousness" in Europe, after Trump's re-election.

While campaigning for the Nov. 5 election, Trump has claimed he will end the war in Ukraine, without offering details on how he plans to get there.

Trump has signaled that Ukraine may have to agree to cede territory in order to make peace with Russia.

People with knowledge of the phone call told the American newspaper, Washington Post, that Kiev was informed about Trump's call with Putin and did not object.

However, the spokesman for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry, Heorhiy Tikhiy, told Reuters on November 10 that Kiev was not aware of this phone call.

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.

As a result of the war, thousands of people have died and millions more have been displaced from their homes./REL
