BBC director general and chief executive resign

BBC Director General Tim Davie and News Chief Executive Deborah Turness have resigned following criticism that a BBC documentary, Panorama, misled viewers by editing a speech by US President Donald Trump.

In a statement after resigning, Davie said it was a personal decision and thanked BBC staff.

"I wanted to let you know that I have decided to leave the BBC after 20 years. This is entirely my decision and I remain very grateful to the Chairman and Board for their unwavering and unanimous support throughout my tenure, including in the final days," Davie said.

In her reaction to the resignation, Turness said that the ongoing controversy surrounding the documentary was causing significant damage to the BBC.

"The ongoing controversy surrounding Panorama on President Trump has reached a stage where it is causing damage to the BBC, an institution that I love," Turness said./C NA, translated by BBC
