Israel warns of a 'long war'/ The number of lives lost increases,

Israel is fighting to drive Palestinian militants from its territory a day after Hamas launched a deadly offensive from Gaza.

More than 600 Israelis have been killed and 100 kidnapped in attacks from Gaza since Saturday, the Israeli government says.

Retaliatory Israeli airstrikes have killed at least 370 people in the Gaza Strip, with 2,200 injured, Palestinian officials say.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu promised revenge and warned of "a long and difficult war" ahead.

There were also reactions from internationals. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke to CNN about the major attack.

He says the US government has received reports that several Americans have died in Israel - and that officials are trying to verify those reports.

The United States is "likely" to provide details on new military aid to Israel later today, he says. "Our first focus is to make sure that Israel has what it needs," Blinken said./ CNA
