Hezbollah hits northern Israel with 140 rockets

Hezbollah - the Lebanese group designated a terrorist organization by the United States - hit northern Israel with 140 rockets on Friday, the Israeli military and the militant group said.

The attack came a day after Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah vowed revenge against Israel for the deadly explosions of telecommunications equipment in Lebanon this week.

The Israeli military said there were three waves of rocket attacks on Friday afternoon, targeting areas along the ravaged border with Lebanon.

Hezbollah said it hit several areas along the border with Israel using Katyusha rockets, as well as air defense bases and the headquarters of an Israeli armored brigade.

The militant group said the rocket attack was retaliation for Israeli attacks on villages and homes in southern Lebanon.

Hezbollah and Israel have exchanged fire almost every day since October 8, a day after the war between Israel and Hamas - the Palestinian group designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union - began.

However, Friday's missile attack was larger than usual.

Nasrallah vowed on Thursday to continue daily attacks on Israel, despite this week's deadly attack on its members' communications equipment.

At least 37 people were killed and more than 3,000 injured when first pagers and then radios used by Hezbollah members exploded in two waves of attacks on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Lebanon and Hezbollah accuse Israel of carrying out these attacks, but Israel has neither admitted nor denied involvement./ REL
