Germany is expected to send medical teams to Gaza

Germany is focusing on supplying food to the suffering civilian population and improving healthcare, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said after a meeting with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi on Thursday.

"We are preparing to send medical teams to Gaza and create opportunities to treat seriously injured children," Baerbock added.

The Foreign Minister praised Jordan's promise of an immediate $5 million in aid to the civilian population in the Gaza Strip.

"I appeal to everyone in the region, especially the Gulf states, to follow this important example," said Baerbock.

The Rafah border crossing between Egypt and the Gaza Strip is expected to open on Friday.

Germany is also stepping up its aid to the civilian population in Gaza in dire straits by offering an immediate humanitarian aid of 50 million euros. With these funds, international organizations such as the World Food Program, UNICEF and the UN organization for Palestinian refugees, UNRWA, will be supported, the German Foreign Minister announced. Baerbock traveled to Jordan, Israel and Lebanon on Thursday. She is accompanied by the diplomat, Deike Potzel, who has been appointed special envoy for humanitarian aid in the Near East.

The terrorist organization Hamas launched a massive rocket attack on Israel on October 7, killing 1,400 people and taking more than 200 hostages, including Germans. It was the heaviest bloodshed in Israeli history.

Israel then responded by encircling the Palestinian enclave of the Gaza Strip and cutting off fuel, food and water supplies and retaliated by striking Hamas targets. According to Hamas data, 3,785 people have lost their lives so far. Hamas is categorized by Germany, the EU, the USA, and some Arab states as a terrorist organization./ DW
