War in the Middle East/ China on Russia's side, worried about civilian

China and Russia "share the same position on the Palestine issue", China's special envoy for the Middle East, Zhai Jun, announced on Friday after meeting his Russian counterpart in Doha on Thursday.

"China and Russia share the same position on the Palestine issue, and China is willing to maintain communication and coordination with the Russian Federation in order to calm the situation as soon as possible," the statement said. 

China has blamed Israel for " the legitimate national rights of the Palestinian people, which have not been guaranteed".

"The Russian Federation is ready to work with China to promote an early ceasefire and stop fighting between the Palestinians and Israelis and create conditions for an early return to the right track on the Palestinian issue," his Russian counterpart said. Mikhail Bogdanov. 

He also said China is willing to work with Russia "to play a positive role" in resuming peace talks between the two sides, adding that Beijing is "heartbroken by the large number of civilian casualties" in the conflict.

Meanwhile, fighting continues between Israel and Gaza. More than 3,700 people have been killed in Gaza, Palestinian officials say, since Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7, killing more than 1,400 people./ CNA
