Trump's ex-lawyer pleads guilty in Georgia election results case

Sidney Powell, the former lawyer of Donald Trump, the former American president, has pleaded guilty to six charges against her related to interference in the American presidential elections in the state of Georgia, writes REL.

Powell, who advanced false claims about the outcome of the 2020 election, has reached a plea deal with prosecutors and will testify in court.

For this case, 19 other people have been sued, including former President Trump.

Powell has faced charges of conspiracy to incite interference in election matters.

In exchange for parole from a six-year prison sentence, Powell must testify only to the truth in subsequent hearings.

This step marks a major victory for prosecutors, considering her involvement in Trump's fight to overturn the election result.

She has also been asked to write a document detailing all her activities related to this case, pay the fine, and issue an apology to all residents of Georgia.

She pleaded guilty just one day before the trial.

Prosecutors have accused him of being among a group of Trump officials and supporters who hacked an election system in a Georgia county in January 2021.

They have tried to convince election officials and voters that the election was somehow rigged against Trump.

Powell, in particular, has been accused of hiring a forensics team and sending it to Georgia to illegally access government computers and analyze voter records.

Trump himself has pleaded not guilty to this case.

In total, the president faces 13 charges of serious violations, under suspicions that he pressured officials in Georgia to overturn the election result in that country.

Powell is the second person to plead guilty in the case.

Scott Hall, a former Republican poll watcher, reached a plea deal with prosecutors in late September.
