Mortal remains found in Rahovec/ Suspected to belong to war victims

This Thursday, mortal remains were found in the municipality of Rahovec. According to suspicions, they belong to victims of the war in Kosovo.

The news was announced through the 24-hour report of the Kosovo Police.

"Police units from the Sector for the Investigation of Persons Missing During the War, in coordination with the Institute of Forensic Medicine, have carried out an order where, during excavation (exhumation), they have found skeletal remains that are suspected of belonging to at least one person who disappeared during the war in Kosovo," the Police report states.

The remains were recovered from the scene and sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) for forensic examinations.

The Government Commission for Missing Persons emphasizes that excavations began yesterday, during which two bone fragments were found. 

"The Commission has announced that this location is also the last location planned for appraisal excavations during 2025. On this occasion, the institutions have announced that on Thursday, December 19, starting at 11:00, there will be a statement to the media from the location itself, regarding the progress of research activities to date at this and other locations," the announcement states.

The excavations are being carried out by the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the Sector for the Investigation of Persons Missing During the War within the Police Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes, as well as the Government Commission for Missing Persons./ CNA
