France investigates his "X" platform/ Musk fails to appear for

Elon Musk did not appear today for an interview with Paris prosecutors who are investigating allegations of misconduct linked to his social media platform "X" and chatbot "Grok".

French authorities had issued a subpoena for Musk in February as part of an investigation launched in January 2025. The cybercrime unit in Paris is examining the “X” algorithm amid allegations that it was used to interfere in French politics and spread “deepfakes” (AI-generated images) with sexual content.

Musk has denied the allegations, describing the investigation as "criminal and politically motivated." French authorities opened the investigation after a French lawmaker raised concerns that X's algorithms could be manipulated, which could distort public debate and enable foreign interference.

The investigation was expanded after reports that Grok, X's artificial intelligence chatbot, generated posts denying the Holocaust, which is illegal in France.

"These voluntary interviews with the leaders are intended to allow them to present their position regarding the facts," prosecutors said.

Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau also said that company employees had been summoned to appear as witnesses between April 20 and 24. The prosecutor's office further added that the investigation will continue even if the summoned persons do not appear. /CNA
