US: 27 ships detained since Strait of Hormuz blockade

The US military has said it has stopped or ordered the return of 27 ships since the start of its operation near the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important maritime corridors for oil transport.

According to the US Central Command (CENTCOM), these ships were traveling to or from the coast of Iran and have been forced to divert or return to Iranian ports as part of the new maritime control measures.

In a statement published on the X platform, the US military also shared a video showing communication with a large ship, which is informed that it was entering an area declared as restricted by the military operation.

Earlier this month, US authorities announced they would take measures to stop or turn back ships involved in Iran's maritime trade, in an effort to increase economic pressure on Tehran and limit its oil exports.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the most strategic points in the world due to its role in global energy transport, while any tension in this area has a direct impact on international oil markets./ CNA
