The fairytale transformation of a pond in the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge was first noticed in late October, Euronews reports.
A pond in Hawaii has turned so pink it could be from the set of "Barbie," but the strange phenomenon is no cause for celebration.
Scientists are still trying to figure out the reason for the strange hue at the Kealia Pond National Wildlife Refuge, but they say drought likely caused it.
Water samples tested at the University of Hawaii suggest that salt-loving bacteria are responsible for the pink color.
