Blasphemy against the Prophet/ Rapper sentenced to death in Iran

Renowned Iranian rapper Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo has been sentenced to death in Iran for the crime of "blasphemy" against the Prophet Muhammad. The rapper has been arrested since December 2023 while serving a five-year prison sentence.

However, the prosecutor had requested a harsher measure and the death sentence has now been imposed. However, this sentence is not final as Amir Hossein Maghsoudloo will have the opportunity to appeal.

The 37-year-old had been living in Istanbul since 2018 before Turkish police handed him over to Iranian authorities in December 2023 after a court sentenced him to 10 years for promoting "prostitution" and other charges such as spreading "propaganda" against the Islamic Republic and distributing "obscene content." /CNA
