"They are persecuting me"/ Former president not allowed at Trump's ceremony

Former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has accused the country's supreme court of persecution. Bolsonaro had called on the Supreme Court to reconsider a previous decision that barred him from traveling to the United States to attend President-elect Donald Trump's inauguration.

But judge Alexandre de Moraes rejected Bolsonaro's request, with the latter still unable to leave the country.

Bolsonaro has been banned from running for president until 2030 and faces criminal charges for a "coup d'état" following his defeat in the 2022 election, while his passport was seized in February 2024 by order of Brazil's supreme court.

Bolsonaro governed Brazil from 2019 to 2022 and has been called the "Trump of the Tropics." /CNA
