The bus collides with the truck/ 15 people lose their lives

A bus carrying elderly people to a casino collided with a truck at a highway intersection in a rural area of ??the Canadian province of Manitoba on Thursday, killing 15 people and injuring 10 others, police said.

Rob Hill, commander of Canadian police in Manitoba, said the bus was carrying 25 people. The ten survivors were taken to hospitals.

Television footage broadcast images of what appeared to be a large van or bus burning in a ditch next to a transport truck. The pavement was littered with debris from the crash and broken glass.

Police Chief Inspector Rob Lasson said "at the moment the drivers of the bus and truck are alive and in hospital". He did not say if they were among the 10 injured. The dead were mostly elderly.

The crash happened in Carberry, a town 170 kilometers west of Manitoba's capital, Winnipeg.

"The news from Karberri, Manitoba is incredibly tragic," Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrote on Twitter. "I offer my deepest condolences to those who lost loved ones today and I am keeping the injured in my thoughts," he said.

Flags are at half-mast at the Manitoba legislature.

The event brought back memories of a 2018 bus crash in the neighboring province of Saskatchewan that killed 16 people.

"Sadly this is a day that will be remembered as one of incredible tragedy and sadness in Manitoba and across Canada," Hill said./Rel
