Ukraine: We have liberated territories in Donetsk and Zaporizhia regions

A senior Ukrainian military commander said Thursday that Ukrainian forces have managed to regain control of more than 100 square kilometers of its territory during a counteroffensive against Russian troops.

General Oleksii Hrmov confirmed to reporters that in the first stages of the offensive, which Ukraine says it launched last week, it has been possible to liberate seven settlements in eastern Donetsk region and southern Zaporizhia region.

According to him, the army had advanced about three kilometers near the village of Mala Tokmachka in Zaporizhia and about seven kilometers in the village of Velyka Novosilka in Donetsk.

Reuters was unable to verify the situation in the war zone.

Meanwhile, Russia's defense minister said Russian troops had successfully hit drone production facilities in Ukraine, using long-range and high-precision missiles.

According to Russia's state news agency RIA, the minister said the air defense forces had intercepted five US-made HIMARS missiles and shot down 25 drones.
