EU: We are verifying the events on the Kosovo-Serbia border line

The spokesperson of the European Union (EU), Peter Stano, has confirmed that the European institutions are treating the situation created in Kosovo as an "urgent issue" and are in contact with Pristina, Belgrade and KFOR representatives, to verify the events in the border line between Kosovo and Serbia, when three Kosovar police officers were arrested by Serbian forces.

"We are - as a matter of urgency - in contact with both sides, as well as with KFOR, to determine what and how exactly happened," Stano said in a written statement.

The EU spokesperson called on Kosovo and Serbia to refrain from any action or reaction that could further contribute to raising tensions.

"We repeat the call of the EU for the immediate and decisive escalation of the situation", said Stano.

Three Kosovo Police officials were arrested on June 14 by Serbian forces near the border line.

The police described this as a "classic organized kidnapping" within the territory of Kosovo, while in Belgrade it was said that they were arrested by anti-terrorist units of the Serbian gendarmerie within the territory of Serbia, in the municipality of Rashka.

The incident, according to the Kosovo Police, happened at noon on Wednesday, when they were allegedly kidnapped by Serbian forces during a patrol in the place called Tresave/Bare, on the border line in the north of Kosovo.

The place Tresave/Bare is located in the municipality of Leposaviq, within the territory of Kosovo.

Meanwhile, Serbia said that the arrest was made in a village in the municipality of Rashka.

State officials in Kosovo have condemned this action and demanded the immediate release of the police officers./ REL
