The tragedy with 78 victims on the Greek coast/ 7 of the emigrant traffickers

The port police are investigating the tragedy that happened off the coast of Greece.

Greek media report that they have arrested 7 of the traffickers, who put the immigrants in the fishing boat, which sank off the coast of Pylos.  

According to the sources of protothema.gr, it is not excluded that the number of traffickers arrested will increase in the following hours.

According to the same sources, all seven arrested traffickers are Egyptian.

According to the "circles" of the Ministry of Transport, the number of seven traffickers is justified by the fact that such a large number of immigrant passengers cannot be controlled and therefore the traffickers were more than one.

The same sources add that in their experience traffickers are the first to realize something is wrong and the first to abandon the boats and escape.

It is known that since yesterday, three of the rescued persons had been identified and it was suspected that they could be some of the traffickers.

In a parallel development, the death toll from the Pylos shipwreck according to the latest information is 78 and not 79 as announced on Wednesday afternoon.

The search is still ongoing. The number of survivors remains 104, while the authorities are concerned by the fact that since yesterday afternoon there has been no progress in the investigations.

As Coast Guard officials point out to protothema.gr, the exact number of passengers will be difficult to accurately determine even after receiving statements from those rescued.

According to the experience of the Coast Guard, these iron fishing vessels have been transporting migrants from Tobruk, Libya to Italy for the past 2-3 years and the number per trip varies from 300 to 500 people. Immigrants come from Afghanistan, Pakistan, Syria and Palestine. The tragic thing is that according to the evidence there were also children on the ship.
