Austria will buy 12 fighter jets from Italy

Austria is in negotiations to buy 12 M-346FA fighter jets from Italy to replace the Saab 105 jets, which were taken out of service at the end of 2020.

Austria's Ministry of Defense confirmed ongoing discussions with the Italian government, with both sides aiming to finalize the deal.

Chancellor Karl Nehammer emphasized this agreement as a proof of strong bilateral relations between Austria and Italy.

The M-346FA (Fighter Attack) is a combat aircraft developed from the M-346 advanced aircraft trainer. It is designed for a range of missions, including pilot training, close air support, tactical reconnaissance and air intervention in the battlespace. The aircraft's flexibility enables it to fulfill different roles, providing a cost-efficient and convenient solution for operators.

The planned acquisition demonstrates Austria's efforts to modernize its air force capabilities and maintain a strong defense posture.
