Governor Sejko meets World Bank representatives/Welcomes the new representative

The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Gent Sejko, hosted today in a meeting the representatives of the World Bank, Richard Record, Temporary Resident Representative of the WB Office in Albania, and Massimiliano Paolucci, the new Representative of the WB Office in Albania.

He conveyed to the WB representatives a special thanks for the technical assistance provided over the years by the World Bank to the Bank of Albania, mainly in the areas of banking supervision, payment systems and financial education.

He also welcomed the new WB Representative, Paolucci.

The Governor stated that the Bank of Albania, with the assistance of the World Bank, has taken concrete steps to harmonize the regulatory framework with European standards, successfully joining the Single Euro Payments Market (SEPA).

The first cross-border SEPA transactions are expected to be carried out in early October 2025.

Sejko emphasized that the BoA is working closely with the World Bank and the Bank of Italy to implement an instant payment system, which is a clone of the TIPS system, the European instant payment system, to offer: real-time payments, with higher security and lower costs for citizens. /CNA
