Services, real estate sales increase by 11.3%, surpassing tourism

The real estate sector had the best performance in the service activity in the first quarter of the year, according to data from INSTAT, which published short-term statistics for the service sector. Sales in this sector increased by 11.3%, while in the Hotels activity, the index marked an increase of 5.7%. For travel agencies, the index marked a decrease of 7.4%. The activity of bars and restaurants increased by 11.9% and transport, storage and mail by 11.6%. The hotel sector led in employment, which increased by 8.6% in the first quarter.

Wages have also recorded strong growth, led by the hotel and real estate sector, with 26.2%, followed by transportation with 14.9% and bars and restaurants with 12.4%.

INSTAT announced for the first time five new economic activities: programming and distribution, real estate, legal and accounting activities, insurance and investigation, and office administration and support services.

The net sales volume index in the first quarter of 2025, compared to the first quarter of 2024, is presented as follows:

In the activity Wholesale, retail and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, the index marked an increase of 3.8%;
In the activity Transport, Storage and Post, the index marked an increase of 11.6%;
In the activity Hotels, the index marked an increase of 5.7%;
In the activity Bar-Restaurants, the index marked an increase of 11.9%;
In the activity Information and Communication, the index marked a decrease of 2.1%;
In the activity Real estate, the index marked an increase of 11.3%;
In the activity Legal and accounting, the index marked an increase of 4.9%;
In the activity Architecture and Engineering, the index marked an increase of 1.0%;
In the activity Travel agency, the index marked a decrease of 7.4%;
In the activity Security and investigation, the index marked an increase of 1.5%;
In the activity Office administration, administrative support, the index marked an increase of 14.3%.

Employment in hotels increases

The employment index in the first quarter of 2025, compared to the first quarter of 2024, is presented as follows:

In the activity Wholesale, retail and repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, the index marked an increase of 3.4%;
In the activity Transport, Storage and Post, the index marked an increase of 2.4%;
In the activity Hotels, the index marked an increase of 8.8%;
In the activity Bar-Restaurants, the index marked an increase of 2.6%;
In the activity Information and Communication, the index marked an increase of 1.5%;
In the activity Real estate, the index marked an increase of 6.6%;
In the activity Legal and accounting, the index marked an increase of 1.9%;
In the activity Architecture and Engineering, the index marked an increase of 2.0%;
In the activity Travel agency, the index marked an increase of 3.9%;
In the activity Security and investigation, the index marked a decrease of 1.3%;
In the activity Office administration, administrative support, the index marked an increase of 1.0%.
