Tourists spend record 874 million euros in January-March, Albanians abroad are

Foreigners who have traveled to Albania have recorded a record level of spending in the first three months of this year.

Bank of Albania data on the balance of payments revealed that foreigners' spending in Albania for the period January-March reached 874 million euros, an increase of 11% compared to the same period a year earlier.

This is the highest level ever recorded. However, compared to the previous year, the growth rates have slowed, as in the first quarter of 2024, foreigners had spent 26% more on their trips to the country.

The trend is in line with the influx of foreign tourists to the country, which showed signs of slowing down at the beginning of this year.

According to other INSTAT data, during the first three months of the year, 1.63 million foreign citizens entered the country, with an increase of 5.9% on an annual basis, from 36% growth the previous year.

According to this data, it turns out that a foreign tourist spent an average of around 537 euros on a trip to Albania in January-March 2025, up from 513 euros in the same period a year earlier, an indirect indicator of rising prices in the country.

Even Albanians are not spared abroad

Albanians' spending on travel abroad also reached a new record in the first quarter, reaching 579 million euros, with an expansion of 11% on an annual basis.

Other INSTAT data show that the departures of Albanian citizens for the first quarter of the year were 1.8 million, with an increase of 7.3% compared to the same period a year earlier.

The balance remains positive, but growth slows down

The tourism balance has been positive for years, as foreigners traveling to Albania spend more than Albanians traveling abroad. According to the Bank of Albania, the travel balance was 295 million euros in the first quarter of 2025, with an increase of 10.4%. A year earlier, the expansion had been 41%./ Monitor Magazine
