Pashk Gjoni, for 24 years an orthopedic doctor at Lezha Hospital, at the same time head of the Orthopedics Department in this institution, denounces the head of the hospital, Leon Kaza, who is seeking to transfer the Orthopedics Department to the premises of the old maternity hospital, which is in scandalous conditions. The reason for this transfer is the total reconstruction that will be done to the Lezha Hospital.

Pashk Gjoni: It was founded in 1998 by me. Today there are 2 orthopedic doctors who serve in this department. At that time, the Department of Orthopedics or the service of orthopedics was included in the surgery department, which is in the department across the street. Since 2008, the Department of Orthopedics, thanks to an investment from the Ministry of Health at that time, functions as a separate orthopedic department, included in the surgery service. Now, orthopedic service that major operations in a year, from 220-230, 200 major operations per year were covered by me. Manipulations in the hall, which are called minor interventions, are around 700 per year. The problem of this ward begins with the new reconstruction of the hospital. It is a very beautiful thing, it is a very good thing that this hospital will be reconstructed, but the trouble starts the moment the word reconstruction is mentioned. Why? As of this moment as we speak there is no official document that the Department of Orthopedics should move from here and go to another place.

Reporter: So you haven't been officially notified?

Pashk Gjoni: Officially, I have no notification from the hospital directorate about where we are going. Through the employees, the staff of the directorate, not the director himself, I believe, has informed the head nurses that you will go down to the old maternity hospital, and the old maternity hospital has been abandoned for 3 years.

We took a close look at the premises of the old maternity hospital, whose condition is deplorable, as this building has been closed due to depreciation for two years. The transfer of Orthopedics has also brought expenses from taxes and Lezha Hospital has tendered 6 million ALL for the provisional adaptation until the completion of the entire reconstruction. There is no table in the country that signals the amount spent and the work deadlines for the adaptation of the old maternity hospital.

The solution, which doctor Pashk Gjoni proposes, without spending, is within the perimeter of this hospital. The new maternity hospital, which is 20 m away with the Department of Orthopedics, also has two modern operating rooms. However, the Director of the Hospital, who is a gynecologist in the new maternity hospital, does not accept that, until the completion of the total reconstruction of the hospital, this ward will move to one of the floors of the new maternity hospital.

Pashk Gjoni: As far as I know, they have been allocated an amount of funds, an amount of lek, which could be 50-70 million old lek, or 5-7 million new lek, to adapt it to the needs of hospital, for the time of the reconstruction that will be...

Pashk Gjoni: According to the information I have, this is not official, it has been adapted. Operating rooms are adapted to bring. I request that, as the orthopedic service and other services of this hospital tighten, everyone tightens a little bit and we move 20 meters from here. This is the simplest solution, the solution without any kind of cost because this is adapted and you cannot spend money on maternity, while the statistics of the Lezha hospital, the number of interventions for 1 year, orthopedics, surgery, gynecology, are somewhere in 1200 interventions per year. 1,200 interventions per year can be done using a maximum of one operating room. With two operating rooms, they are done with freedom and without straining either the staff or the surgeons. After that, I will sue him in the prosecutor's office for misappropriation of funds, because these are the taxpayers' funds and the funds of the Albanian government.
