Hormone therapy in Albania/ Doctor: Involvement of children, scandalous and

Renowned physician Erion Dasho emphasized that the hormonal therapy that has also begun at the QSUT should not be started for individuals under the age of 18.

Speaking to A2 CNN, Dasho said he is against involving children in such treatments.

Further, Dasho focused on three criticisms of the Deputy Minister of Health, Eugena Tomini, regarding this service, underlining that there should be no public disinformation.

"For people over the age of 18, the law recognizes the right to make decisions about their lives, and this includes the gender identity they want to have. But I have consistently opposed the involvement of children in such treatments and on this point I am firm. The Deputy Minister mentioned several untruths in her speech.

The first is related to the issue of reimbursement. The decision clearly states that the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund is one of the entities charged with its implementation. This means that these treatments will be reimbursed by the fund. Here, the deputy minister should not misinform the public opinion.

Second, she did not mention the fact that in the guideline she approved there is a separate paragraph for children and their gender transition in relation to hormonal treatments. This is a scandal and, in my opinion, the most serious part of this whole story. So, children are part of the guideline and this is unacceptable.

"Thirdly, the deputy minister mentioned another big lie when she talked about the multidisciplinary group. There is no multidisciplinary group in this instruction. There are only two endocrinologists who have signed as a working group," Dasho said./CNA
