6th P-TEC/Balluku Meeting: Albania aims to turn from an energy importer into an

The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, as well as the Deputy Prime Minister, Belinda Balluku, participated today in the 6th meeting of the Partnership for Transatlantic Energy Cooperation (P-TEC) held in Athens.

Balluku stated that the meeting marks the beginning of closer cooperation between the US Department of Energy, the European Union, and the countries of Central and Southern Europe.

The minister further stated that Albania aims to turn from an importing country into a net energy exporter by 2030. She emphasized that the concrete commitment of the US Department of Energy in the European energy sector is hopeful and a guarantee of sustainability and energy independence.

"The 6th Transatlantic Energy Partnership Meeting marks the beginning of closer cooperation between the United States Department of Energy, the European Union, and especially the countries of Central and Southern Europe.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright delivered his keynote address today with an inspiring vision that focused on energy security, transatlantic cooperation, but above all, the coordination of states to minimize the impact of Russian gas on Europe.

Official Athens has signed an important agreement during P-TEC 6 to open the European doors to American liquefied gas, turning the region into a strategic point of vital importance for geopolitics. In his speech, Secretary Wright underlined the fact that new technologies, especially artificial intelligence applied to the field of energy, would very quickly bring extraordinary results and sustainable solutions for the energy sector in Europe. In his speech, Prime Minister Mitsotakis, who welcomed P-TEC 6, announced that for the first time in 2024 Greece managed to return to being a net exporting country.

I had the opportunity to inform our European colleagues and strategic allies, during the Ministerial session, that Albania aims to turn from an importing country into a net exporting country by 2030, as well as to share with them important interconnection plans, which include not only the VIII energy corridor, but also the so-called East-West corridor that extends between Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Albania and Italy. The construction of the underwater interconnection line from the coast of Albania to Italy was considered by those present as a necessary investment for the energy security of Southeastern Europe.

The concrete commitment of the US Department of Energy to the European energy sector is hopeful and a guarantee of sustainability and, above all, energy independence.

Another important presence here at P-TEC 6 in Athens was the US Secretary of the Interior, Doug Burgum, with whom I had the pleasure of introducing myself. His presence clearly shows the important role that energy plays in global security. ", said Minister Balluku. /CNA
