SAI "blackens" Healthcare: Patient care proves to be insufficient

The head of the Albanian Supreme Audit Institution (ALSI), Arben Shehu, in the institution's report for 2024, noted that, in the health sector, audits identified deficiencies in the administration of medical equipment and personnel, creating dependence on external services and increasing costs.

He emphasized that their distribution is not in line with the real needs of the population, while patient care is insufficient due to the lack of comprehensive treatment and limited managerial and professional capacities.

"In the health sector, audits identified deficiencies in the management of medical equipment and personnel, creating dependence on external services and increasing costs. Also, their distribution is not in line with the real needs of the population, while patient care is insufficient. This is due to the lack of comprehensive treatment, limited managerial and professional capacities," Shehu declared.

The report further emphasizes that in the field of environment, urban and hospital waste management presents sensitive issues, where the lack of proper infrastructure and safe practices endangers public health and negatively impacts the environment.
