The Euronews poll, how it changed the public debate in Albania

A new brand has entered the Albanian public sphere, radically changing the culture of debate, "Barometer".

For more than two years, dozens of polls have brought a new spirit where the likeability of politicians, the main problems of Albanians, the opinion of society on topics of public interest have been periodically measured.

The first polls hit the screens in the early 2000s, and the first exit poll was conducted in 2005. Since then, polls have been more of a tool for influence, heavily sponsored by politics, than an opportunity to measure public opinion or to serve the public.

But this polluting reality was left behind by the Euronews Albania Barometer.

The survey left even the most skeptics speechless when it accurately predicted the result of the 2021 parliamentary elections, which was the same one that the Central Election Commission also issued in the end.

The second test was the March 6 by-elections where, again, the Barometer proved infallible.

Again this time in the elections of May 14, the survey accurately found how many votes each candidate received in the big race for Tirana.

The barometer of Euronews Albania founded a new genre in Albanian television journalism, similar to the well-known brands in the Anglo-Saxon world, where the measurement of public opinion is something normal.

Now, the Barometer is an 'institution' trusted and referred to by journalists, analysts, politicians and all Albanians.
