Today, in the framework of the 50th anniversary of the Spaç Revolt, former Prime Minister Sali Berisha took part in the conference "Spaç Revolt, 50 years - memory against oblivion".

In his speech, Berisha stated that the uprising of Spaç, without question, marks the peak of human courage, marks the brightest act of human resistance for dignity and freedom.

" We gather today to honor one of the most extraordinary events in war, man's struggle for freedom and dignity.

Spaçi is one of the most isolated places. All the security measures and enclosures of the concentration camp were added to this isolation.

The prisoners in this prison, aware that they have no chance to win their cause, decided to sign the execution with the act they did, with the revolt they organized.

In this context, if we consider that they are at the top of human heroism, they were imprisoned for opposing the regime, but between continuing to spend the days of their sentence and waiting for one day to be able to get out of prison and camp, they chose the challenge with sublime sacrifice.

Pal Zefi, Skender Daja, Dervish Peka, Hajër Pashai and many other heroes left a message written with their lives, with their sublime sacrifice, perhaps the most precious message for man.

A slogan is widely used: better dead than red, but their message is better dead than without dignity, than without freedom.

This was the absolute challenge they made to the cruel regime. This is the most powerful message they give to the civilized man.

The heroes of Spaçi in their uprising had no support or solidarity, except for each other. They were aware of the ferocity and barbarism of the regime's executioners. Weapons and tools. But they marked the pinnacle of Albanian heroism, as they decided to die for what is most sacred and precious to man, for his dignity, for his freedoms", said Berisha./ CNA.al
