Should Ervin Salianji be punished for manipulating the "Babale" case? 

This is the question raised by CNA in an open poll this Thursday.

There are three options in the survey: " Yes ", " No ", " I don't know ".

This survey was opened after the session at the Court of Appeal, where Salianji went with the deputies of the DP Parliamentary Group.

The final decision for Salianji will be announced on September 26, after the case dragged on for about 6 years in the courts and for more than two years from the opening of the file in Appeal. ( Read here )

We recall that the "Babale" case started in the spring of 2018, when Ervin Salianji published an audio recording, where according to him, Agron Xhafaj, the brother of the Minister of the Interior at that time, Fatmir Xhafaj, was involved in drug trafficking.

According to the audio-interception, which actually turned out to be a edited material, the brother of Fatmir Xhafaj, Agron Xhafaj, was accused of being caught in wiretapping with a former trafficker, Albert Veliu (Babalja). ( Read here )

But, from the investigations, it turned out that Fredi Alizoti was the person who in some cases does the voice of Agron Xhafajt (in the role).

After verifying the facts, on December 18, 2019, Ervin Salianji was sentenced to one year in prison by the Court of Tirana for the "Babale" file, on the charge of false reporting. ( Read here )

In 2022, the file went to Appeal and since then the hearings have been postponed due to the lack of lawyers for the parties./ CNA
