Sokol Sadushi on symbols of communism: I had a partisan father
Sokol Sadushi

The head of the Supreme Court, Sokol Sadushi, reacted to the red communist scarf placed during an activity a few days ago.

In his response, Sadushi is justified and emphasizes that he participated in the 80th anniversary of the V Brigade, as he was a member of one of the founding families. Sadushi says that his father was a partisan, one of the founders of this brigade.

Full reaction:

It has been a few days that public voices have disseminated facts and attitudes in public opinion, which are far from the truth in wording, one-sided in explanation and incorrect in interpretation, that the President of the Supreme Court has participated in an activity that is incompatible with his function, as a judge.

I feel obliged, in the interest of transparency with the public and with the desire to shed light in the right way, to bring to your attention that:

Three administrative units, the municipalities of Vlora, Himara and Selenica, on January 20, 2024, jointly organized an event in memory and honor of the 80th anniversary of the creation of the Fifth Brigade, one of the most popular Albanian combat formations, participating in The Second World War, which contributed to the liberation of the country and fought in Kosovo and up to Sanjak in Bosnia-Herzegovina. I was invited to this activity among hundreds of others, as a member of the family of one of the founders of this brigade, my father Maliq Sadushi.

The important events of the Second World War are part of the memory and historical heritage of all the countries aligned in the great anti-fascist alliance of the time. Nowhere and no one in these countries considers that honoring that titanic effort of humanity and the democratic world has to do with ideological shades related to today.

Liberation Day in Albania or May 9, the day of victory over Nazi-fascism that is commemorated throughout Europe is officially honored by those who believe that anti-fascism is a moral value of humanity. Honoring and solemnizing the work of those young people, some of whom were even martyrs, who took part in the war, just like their anti-fascist peers everywhere in the world, is the moral obligation of everyone, of every patriot who loves the country. A historical act is not judged, uniting it with the communist regime that was installed after the liberation of the country, and the anti-fascist liberators cannot be accused of this, as their goal was only the liberation of their country.

In this sense, the claim that the President of the Supreme Court participated in activities incompatible with the function of a judge is wrong and illogical. Participation in a commemorative activity of the Anti-Fascist War, which is honored today throughout the democratic world, is not considered as engagement in a political activity, much less identifiable with a certain political party in Albania.

I feel fully responsible and committed to my obligations as a judge and as a citizen, part of which is gratitude for the sacrifices the Albanian people made during the Second World War.

A different behavior on my part, through the denial of the history of the country and that of the family, should cause more concern for the personality of the judge, than participation in the activity that is done in honor of the war and the contribution of my father, the fellow soldiers of him and all the martyrs of the homeland.

At the end of this forced explanation, I take the opportunity to assure the public that my professional commitment in the field of justice will be the same, with maximum dedication, daily and honest in the constitutional mission to guarantee the rule of law.

We emphasize that Sadushi has a very, very important post, as he heads one of the most weighty courts in the country, but he does not hesitate to pose with a communist scarf around his neck.

The institution he leads is of justice, independent and of course political symbols should not be displayed by the high official.

The red scarf symbolizes the three generations: communists, members of the communist youth and pioneers under the leadership of the Communist Party.
