Road Safety/Hita: The time for hunting fines is over

The Director General of the State Police, Skënder Hita, said at an event that one of the main priorities is to increase road safety parameters.

In his speech, Hita said that the time for unreasonable detentions or the pursuit of fines is over. Hita said that technology determines the culprit through intelligent tools, not intuition.

The police chief has called on drivers to slow down and respect traffic rules.

" Road safety is not simply an institutional challenge. It is a shared responsibility, a moral obligation and a guarantee for the life of every citizen who travels on the road."

Today we are not here for another awareness-raising activity, but we are here for something much more precious: for life. Every loss of life in our accident statistics is not just a number. It is a life interrupted in the middle, it is a family hurt. Drivers of vehicles, motorcycles and pedestrians must be aware and rigorously enforce the rules of the road, as the road is not a race track, but a space for coexistence, where the responsibility of each of us determines whether we will return home and our loved ones safe and sound.

To fulfill one of the major priorities of the State Police, such as increasing road safety parameters, I would like to dwell on the important initiatives we have undertaken in the way we control traffic. The time of unwarranted stops or hunting for fines is over. Today, the State Police has entered the era of intelligent monitoring. Our new strategy is based on the principle: technology determines the culprit, not intuition. Through intelligent tools, such as Poliskan devices, high-quality drones and automatic radars, we identify violations in real time, without interrupting the flow of traffic and without creating unnecessary stress for regular drivers. This is an important step towards more professional, more accurate and more transparent policing.

Technology cannot save us if we lack awareness. That is why I take this opportunity to appeal to all drivers: speed kills! Do not rush to arrive a few minutes early, risking never arriving or arriving crippled. Wrong overtaking is a game of life. A cell phone at the wheel blinds you for seconds that can be fatal, and above all, alcohol and other prohibited substances have no place at the wheel. Whoever drives a vehicle under their influence is not driving a car, but a weapon that risks killing lives.

Equally important is the dimension of prevention and education. Awareness-raising messages for drivers are essential to change behavior on the road, to increase public awareness ,” said Hita.
