From January 1, 2024, Albania assumes the one-year presidency of the US-Adriatic Charter Partnership Commission (A5).

During the A5 ministerial held in Skopje, North Macedonia, the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani, emphasized that the blocking of Kosovo's membership in the A5 must end.

Hasani appreciated the role of the A-5 Charter in the efforts of the countries of the region towards full Euro-Atlantic integration.

“Kosovo's membership is very late. We have fully and traditionally supported the membership of Kosovo in our initiative and we are very sorry that this membership continues to be blocked. During our presidency we will prioritize to resolve this issue as soon as possible. We have supported RMV's concept of revitalizing A-5 and intend to take it further during our presidency. Also, we will try to adapt the Charter to best serve us in shaping common responses to current security threats and challenges", he said.

Asked about the integration process of Albania and North Macedonia, Hasani said that the two countries have done an admirable joint work and that the region's path to the EU should not be hindered by question marks and ambiguity.

The US-Adriatic Charter (US-Adriatic Charter) is a security political initiative with a regional character, agreed in advance at the NATO Summit in Prague (November 2002), between the Presidents of Albania, Croatia, Macedonia and the USA -ve, to expand later with Montenegro and Bosnia-Herzegovina, where Kosovo, Slovenia and Serbia have observer status./ CNA
