Prime Minister Edi Rama, in today's episode of his podcast "Flasim", began his speech with a greeting for the holidays of Eid al-Fitr and Sultan Nevruz.
"Heartfelt congratulations to all Muslim believers, after a month of prayers, self-restraint and reflection, with the fraternal wish that health, peace and smiles reign in their families. Happy also to all Bektashi believers, may the day that symbolizes rebirth, hope and new beginnings, be just the first of a long string of auspicious days, for them and for their loved ones. But, undoubtedly, I wish that the days ahead of our Albania will be like this and I am confident that they will be like this ," Rama said.
He further said that Albania has recorded stable and high economic growth. He said that this growth has come from reforms, and added that the best part of this process is the increase in salaries.
Among other things, Rama also spoke about increasing the Defense budget and increasing the salaries of military personnel, saying that by the end of this mandate he aims to reach the average of NATO countries.
"Albania continues with a stable economic growth rate, positioning itself among the countries with the highest performance for the coming years, according to the forecasts of international financial institutions. In Albania 2030, an increase of about 32% of the Gross National Product is expected, which places us in the main group of economies with the most stable, but also the highest growth always according to those organizations, not simply according to the Albanian government. And this growth is not a coincidence. It is based on the foundations that we opened and fortified with our courageous reforms, long-awaited and long-missed for decades and that have put the country in the conditions to move forward rapidly. It is a growth that is based on sectors that are in continuous development, in the meantime, that definitely, what is even better, tangible, in this growth process, is the continuous increase in salaries, not only in the public sector, but now also in the private sector, especially for all those who have a certain qualification or possess a craft and this is also a call for all Albanians abroad to continue to look with optimism at the possibility of returning to Albania.
At the same time, another decision has been made to intervene with a temporary measure, which other countries are also doing in the excise tax on oil, by reducing it by about 20%, in order to ease, so to speak, the burden on vehicle users. But in the meantime, I want to say very, very clearly that at the end of the day, what we are interested in first is to protect pensioners, which means that in this case, the increased level of benefit that will come to the state coffers from the price increase, whatever it is, after the reduction in the excise tax, will go only to protect pensioners, only to support pensioners.
At the same time, we are moving quickly on the one hand on the draft law on strategic reserves, which is in public consultation. It is a process that began before this new crisis began, which is related to the loss of balance in the world on a global scale, which is provoking crisis after crisis. And on the other hand, in parallel, we are preparing to introduce into the market a public factor, a new force, which will have the burden, together with a series of other measures, to make a significant intervention in establishing, not only a balance in terms of price in the oil market, but also a completely new level in terms of transparency of that market, in terms of oil movements in the Republic of Albania and in terms of a phenomenon still unexhausted in this regard, which is oil evasion and smuggling, also taking advantage of the transit regime and doing tricks that have come to an end. "We will intervene and we strongly believe that in a period not too distant, we will show with facts that the intervention has been an intervention for the good of society, for the good of vehicle users and oil consumers, but above all, for the good of all those who do not pollute and do not owe it to those who pollute, by driving diesel cars that in the meantime pay a consequence, which we want to put an end to ," Rama said. /CNA
