World Down Syndrome Day/ Zhupa: The state should invest in quality services and

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has made a post on social media for World Down Syndrome Day.

Zhupa states that the reality in Albania remains challenging for young people with Down Syndrome because "there is a lack of specialized and affordable services, difficulties in the inclusive education system, few employment opportunities and real integration, and high costs for families."

Among other things, she adds that the Albanian state must invest in quality and accessible services, strengthen inclusive education, and create concrete policies for employment and integration.

On this day, a special thanks goes to:

Doctors and therapists who care with dedication;

Teachers who open the doors of knowledge and inclusion;

Parents who fight, sacrifice, and love unconditionally every day.

An inspiring example is Gersi Troka, swimming champion at the Special Olympics Berlin 2023, an extraordinary young man and activist who makes us proud every day.

Great appreciation for Special Olympics Albania, which through sport gives these young people the opportunity to excel, gain self-confidence, and feel like an equal part of society.

Likewise, the Down Syndrome Albania Foundation continues to do extraordinary work in support of families, education, and awareness in the country.

The reality in Albania remains challenging because there is: a lack of specialized and affordable services, difficulties in the inclusive education system, few employment opportunities and real integration, and high costs for families.

The Albanian state must:

To invest in quality and accessible services for all.

Strengthen inclusive education with real support for teachers and students.

To create concrete policies for employment and integration.

Let's all together raise awareness in society to accept and include, not to prejudice. Because inclusion is not charity, it is justice. /CNA
