Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and Special Envoy for the Western Balkans Gabriel Escobar has commented on the situation in the north of Kosovo.

In an interview for REL, Escobar stated that the barricades should be removed by the people who put them up.

Among other things, he emphasizes that they will try to make both countries focus on dialogue.

“Ne presim që njerëzit që i kanë ngritur ato, t’i largojnë. Por, ne gjithashtu presim që atyre t’u ofrohet një rrugë përpara, për t’i adresuar disa çështje. Tani, ka aq shumë çështje, për të cilat duhet të jemi të vendosur. Disa çështje që lidhen me sundimin e ligjit, me urdhërarreste legjitime... ato duhet të gjykohen në gjykata dhe jo në rrugë. Megjithatë, në çështjet që kanë të bëjnë me procedura administrative, si targat e makinave, zëri i tyre komunitetit serb duhet të dëgjohet. Ne e kemi inkurajuar Qeverinë që të dëgjojë zërin e tyre në këtë çështje. Ne do të vazhdojmë të përpiqemi t’i afrojmë të dyja palët dhe ta përqendrojmë vëmendjen e tyre në dialogun e lehtësuar nga BE-ja”, është shprehur Escobar.

Also asked about Serbia's request, which on December 15 will ask KFOR to return security forces to Kosovo, Escobar said that the US categorically opposes this.

"We categorically oppose this. We categorically reject this. We do not support it at all. And, also, I want to say that Kosovo has very strong security guarantees from the United States", declared Escobar./ CNA.al
