The US Department of State has published the annual report on human trafficking, where Albania is ranked in the category of second-level countries.

The report reflects the situation in Albania regarding human trafficking, where it is emphasized that the government has not met the minimum standards in some key areas.

"The government investigated significantly fewer trafficking-related crimes, prosecuted fewer suspects, and did not convict any traffickers for the second year in a row," the report said.

It is further highlighted that the police and district prosecutors do not have the appropriate experience and specialization to investigate and prosecute trafficking cases and that the alleged perpetrators are convicted of lesser crimes, such as "exploitation of prostitution", instead of trafficking.

This report also states that the government has not controlled the part of the community that may be victims of human trafficking, such as immigrants, asylum seekers, the Roma and Egyptian communities, as well as children./ CNA
