State of the Environment Report/Alarming air quality in Albania, a problem for

A report compiled on the state of the environment assesses that the air quality in Albanian cities is not at a very good level.

Based on urban air quality data monitored in the period July-December 2025, the National Environment Agency report emphasizes that the main pollutants of urban air quality are dust with a diameter of 10 micrometers, especially at the Tirana and Elbasan stations.

The main source of pollution in these two cities is traffic, as the stations are installed near roads with heavy traffic in the cities of Tirana and Elbasan.

At the Tirana station, exceedances of NO2 concentrations, or levels very close to the standard limit value, have also been observed.

Monitoring data over the years conducted by the NEA shows that the main sources of air pollution in Albania are mainly related to road traffic, construction activities, and the use of fossil fuels for heating./CNA
