"Saranda hostage to a poorly designed terminal"/ Zhupa: Traffic and

Democratic Party MP Ina Zhupa has denounced the way the bus terminal in Saranda was designed, calling it a failure of urban infrastructure.

According to her, buses and vehicles are forced to travel an additional 1.5 kilometers every day to the roundabout at the entrance to the city just to return to their destination, due to a faulty design.

Zhupa emphasizes that the roundabout itself was built in a dysfunctional manner, creating traffic, pollution, and a waste of time for hundreds of travelers, while accusing the Municipality of Saranda of implementing a project without professional studies and without vision.

"This is the daily routine of buses and transport vehicles in Saranda. The poorly designed terminal forces them to make this roundabout every day, which is itself unstudied."

Instead of passenger vehicles leaving the terminal heading towards their destination, they are forced to travel about 1.5 kilometers to the Fifth Avenue roundabout, at the entrance to the city, only to turn around and return to the correct direction to their destination.

As if this faulty design of the terminal, made without expert studies but based on post-construction experiments as the municipality employees call them, were not enough. The roundabout itself was also built in the most dysfunctional way possible. It blocks the movement of large vehicles, creates unnecessary traffic and makes normal circulation difficult.

This is the consequence when infrastructure is not designed by road safety and urban planning experts, but with absurd municipal decisions, without vision and without professional studies by the Saranda municipality.

The result is visible every day: loss of time for hundreds of travelers, increased pollution, and heavy traffic at the entrance to the city.

"Saranda needs a modern and functional infrastructure, not poorly thought-out projects that cost citizens, businesses and tourists every day," denounces Ina Zhupa./ CNA
