The vice president of the Tirana Municipal Council, Dorian Teliti, in a statement to the media, reacted to the government's decision on the reference price of the property.

The Albanian peasant, farmer and cattle breeder will also have to pay a tax for stables and cow sheds.

The financial cost of the new quadrupled property tax, because both the tax itself and the reference price have increased, is only one side of the coin.

Thousands of Albanian families do not have ownership certificates, even though they have property. This will open a new chapter of stress for these families, who will face government tax collectors twice: to get a property certificate and to explain to them that they do not have to pay tax on it, that they do not they have cards.

What will happen to the families dispossessed by the earthquake? Hundreds and hundreds of them are in apartments and houses which are not their property. The government has not given them the ownership certificates and they are damaged twice. They have lost their homes and are now in apartments that do not belong to them. Will these also be taxed?
