Protests in North Macedonia/University of Tirana: Their demand, a just

The University of Tirana supports the protest of Albanian students in North Macedonia.

The public reaction of the University of Tirana emphasizes that students are demanding the realization of a fundamental right, the use of their native language in educational and professional processes.

It is further emphasized that the request of Albanian students to conduct state exams in the Albanian language represents a legitimate aspiration for equality, dignity and non-discrimination.

"The University of Tirana expresses its full support for Albanian students in North Macedonia, who are seeking the realization of a fundamental right: the use of their native language in educational and professional processes.

The right to be educated and assessed in one's mother tongue is not a privilege, but an internationally recognized standard and an essential element of real equality in multilingual societies. When students pursue their studies in a particular language, it is a legitimate right that the final professional assessment also be conducted in the same language.

The demand of Albanian students to take state exams in Albanian represents a legitimate aspiration for equality, dignity and non-discrimination. Failure to respect this principle risks creating unnecessary obstacles to their professional development and undermining trust in state institutions.

The University of Tirana supports every effort aimed at strengthening linguistic rights and guaranteeing equal standards in education and public life. We encourage the relevant institutions to find just and comprehensive solutions, in the spirit of law and democratic coexistence.

Respecting linguistic diversity is not only a legal obligation, but also a value that enriches society and strengthens social cohesion on the path of the region's integration into the European Union! ", says the University of Tirana's response. / CNA
