Catholic Easter is celebrated today, a few of the traditions and celebrations

This Sunday, Catholic Easter is celebrated in Albania and around the world. 

The word 'Easter' means passage, for Christians it is the passage from physical and spiritual death to New Eternal Life. This marked day celebrates the resurrection of Jesus and is considered a rebirth of Christianity. The earliest references to the celebration of this festival date back to the 2nd century.

Easter is preceded by a preparatory time of fasting and penance, lasting 40 days. These days are called Lent and begin on 'Ash Wednesday' and end on 'Palm Sunday', which commemorates the 40 days Jesus spent in the desert in prayer and fasting and being tempted by the Devil.

This holy holiday is celebrated by churches around the world. The traditional Easter celebration includes a church service with candles and special prayers sung in praise of Jesus Christ. It is then followed by an organized Sunday celebration, with happy music playing in the background.

In some cultures, celebrations are more prominent. People often engage in charity events on this day and sing joyful prayers in church to commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. A more vital feature of Easter is the egg. The egg is a symbol of resurrection for the Christian community, so beautifully decorated eggs and egg 'hunts' have become very important at Easter.
