Trouble for Melon/Her partner targeted for rape comments

The husband of the prime minister of Italy, Giorgia Meloni, has been the target of comments after what he said during the broadcast of a rape case on television.

Andrea Giambruno, who hosts the "Diario del giorno" program on the commercial station Rete 4, while commenting on the rape of a young woman, said: "If you go dancing, you have the right to get drunk, there should be no misunderstanding, but if you avoid getting drunk and dulling your senses, you can also avoid certain problems like dealing with an abuser."

This statement was widely condemned by Italian opposition politicians.

"I tell Giambruno that boys should be educated to show respect, instead of girls being taught to be careful. Teach men the value of consent, instead of girls being cautious,” said Cecilia D'Elia, an Italian Democrat senator.
