Fire problems in Gjirokastra/Kumbaro: We need to raise awareness

A simulation of a school fire situation was at the center of a demonstration organized by civil emergencies, in collaboration with firefighting forces and the State Police in Gjirokastra.

Also present at this exercise was the Minister of Defense, Pirro Vëngu, who emphasized the importance of conducting these exercises in a city like Gjirokastra, which in recent years has faced frequent problems with fires.

"We came together with my colleague, we started from Gjirokastra, as part of a nationwide program, I would say, where we have the honor of starting from this city, which is composed of awareness elements in public environments such as the 'Çajupi' school, which we were in today, where we had the opportunity to demonstrate a fire situation and see the reaction of students and other structures. We conducted this simulation for two reasons, the first to raise awareness among children in cases of fire and of course for the tourist season", said Vëngu.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Tourism, Mirela Kumbaro, stated that Gjirokastra, in addition to the natural and historical assets it offers, must also guarantee safe tourism. According to her, cooperation with civil emergencies is essential for this purpose.

"When summer comes, in addition to rising temperatures, the population also increases, perhaps also the carelessness of various people, whether shepherds or those who go out for adventures outside the city. If there is no awareness in schools and the community, we cannot do it alone," added Kumbaro.
