The Judicial Appointments Council (JAC) has suspended the verification of candidacies to replace the resigned magistrate Elsa Toska. The JAC announces that it will ask the Assembly to evaluate the re-announcement of the call, as it is the body that has the right to appoint 3 members to this court.

"During the verification phase, it was found that the number of candidates who meet the legal requirements has fallen below the minimum threshold of three candidacies. In compliance with the constitutional and legal provisions, as well as in implementation of decision no. 84/2024 of the Constitutional Court that emphasizes the importance of the regular renewal of this court, once every three years, the Council decided as follows: Suspension of the procedure for verifying candidacies for the vacant position in the Constitutional Court announced on 30.09.2024. This decision is based on Article 125 of the Constitution, Article 7/c of ??Law no. 8577/2000, Article 218 of Law no. 115/2016, as well as the relevant sub-legal acts that regulate this process. The decision will be published on the official website of the Supreme Court, in the section dedicated to the Judicial Appointments Council", it is stated in the decision taken by KED. /CNA
