Smart camera monitoring begins on the country's main highways. With the installation of the monitoring systems, fines will also begin for drivers who violate traffic rules.

"When a traffic violation occurs, smart cameras automatically record relevant data and photos. This information is then analyzed by operators and transmitted to the State Police."

The latter verifies the case and releases the relevant fine, which goes directly to the driver in the electronic fines system," says Marin Bezhani - Director of the National Traffic Monitoring Center (QKMT).

But what are the points that are currently being monitored?

Monitoring is being carried out in a testing phase at several selected strategic points, including: Golem near the train station, the Spille 1 and Spille 2 overpass, the area known as 'Zham Sektor', as well as in Bishti i Zhurit and Rrogozhina. In addition, testing is also being carried out on several other main road axes in the country.”

The final goal is to cover 3,650 km that are assets of the Albanian Road Authority's inventory and connect with the "smart city" project.

The National Traffic Monitoring Center is currently in the final phase of software and technical testing, while the physical infrastructure on the ground for the first 200 kilometers of the main road axes is also being finalized.

"Full activation of monitoring is expected to happen very soon, once these tests are completed and the optimal functioning of the systems is ensured," said Marin Bezhani, Euronews reports.

About 200 km of the country's main highways are part of this project for monitoring with smart cameras.
