"Politicians must be responsible"/ Linda Rama: Here's what I

Prime Minister Edi Rama's wife, Linda Rama, shared today her approach regarding participation in active politics.

In an interview with Euronews Albania, Rama stated that to enter politics, an individual must be a winner.

Rama stated that accountability is important for politicians and that in that role this is the way to gain respect and fulfill one's duty.

“I realized very early in my life that, to enter politics, you have to be a winner. And, of course, when I left the agency, I actually found myself facing a dilemma: what do I do next? And at that moment, because of all the confrontation I had with politics – because I was in a position that, in fact, I was confronting it a lot – I decided that I would be much more useful as part of civil society, as part of, let's say, independent research and consulting, together with international institutions that are present in Albania.

I have an enormous amount of respect for anyone who is in politics. So I have no prejudices. But at the same time, their accountability is very important to me. And I think a lot needs to be done by politicians and anyone who is in politics to deserve respect and to fulfill everything that is entrusted to them – because it is a great privilege to have this opportunity.

And when you asked this question, I thought of many friends of mine who, in fact, could have been fantastic politicians, fantastic MPs and fantastic ministers. They are already in public administration. And I think that many of them – and this is why the screening process surprised everyone in the EU – it kind of surprised everyone about the level… Because at that level there are patriotic experts who actually care a lot about the country and give their best every day.

So, the fact that some have been given the opportunity to be in politics – they should never forget that there are many others who deserve to be in politics, but who were not given the opportunity to be there. Therefore, we should see from them the maximum possible, so that they do not remain in debt to all those others who, in fact, had all the capacity to become someone. But who will not be able to see this capacity represented in these positions during their lifetime”, said Linda Rama./CNA
