US warning/SHISH and Anti-Terrorism Department intensify security measures

Following an announcement made on April 1 by the US Embassy in Albania, local authorities have increased their level of alert due to a potential threat from groups linked to Iran.

It is reported that the Anti-Terror structures in the State Police have intensified the plan of measures, which was active earlier, but has now been strengthened after the signaling from the American side.

In the context of these developments, specialized units are holding ongoing meetings with representatives of the American Embassy and the Israeli Embassy, ??to coordinate actions and exchange information on the security situation.

The measures have focused mainly on buildings of particular importance, including embassies, as well as the Mujahideen compound in Manëz. Large public spaces considered potentially exposed to danger have also been placed under monitoring.

An increased presence of police forces has been noted on the ground, while part of the reinforced plan is also the Albanian Intelligence Service, which in cooperation with anti-terror structures is closely following any development related to the security of diplomatic facilities.

Authorities do not report any specific incidents, but emphasize that the measures are preventive and aim to guarantee public safety in the country. / CNA
