"Brain" of incinerators, Mirel Mërtiri has spoken about how the issue of the Elbasan incinerator started.

He said that it was a family initiative and for this he addressed the relevant institutions.   

Mertiri says that PPPs were the only way such an investment could be sought

Mërtiri: Klodian Zoto is a close friend of mine and has the activity of his company a long time ago. He has received part of the contracts. I have been and continue to be the project director of Integrated Energy.

Journalist: You started the business with water meters, but you were not a shareholder of this company, why this choice?

Journalist: Whose idea was it for such waste treatment?

Mërtiri: You know very well that the remains of the city of Elbasan were burned every day, there were problems every day and it was a gangrene for that city. Seeing what was happening, my family and I addressed you to the government.

Journalist: Who did you contact?

Mërtiri: We directed you to the relevant institutions.

Journalist: Before the emergency was announced by the District Council, who did you contact.

Mërtiri: We were triggered by the environmental emergency that the government had announced many months ago.

Journalist: The emergency first broke out in Elbasan.

Courage: Wrong. We have addressed the relevant institutions to solve the problem. PPP was the only way such an investment could be sought. It's a business choice, everyone makes their own choices. We have not received the Tirana concession./ CNA
